Honestly, I think it's because I don't have enough to do most of the time; there's lab work, of course, but it's different than what I used to do with myself.
Well, no, that would have been a bit disturbing. They're offshoots of the Tyrant program - the problem is that Tyrants are expensive to manufacture and those who possess the necessary genes to accept the mutation are absurdly few in number. Bandersnatches are what happen when you inject more or less everyone else.
...
Have I ever properly explained what I do to you? ...I don't think it really matters. We create biological weapons via inducing mutations in human beings, that's all you really need to know.
The ones I'm talking about are flawed, but they're some of my favorites because they manage to unnerve me a bit.
I know someone who tried to create gods, or the closest thing he knew to them; he didn't want to become one, though, because doing things like that to yourself is generally regarded as a stupid idea. It doesn't stop people from doing it anyway, of course.
They unnerve me because of what they're capable of. It's in that way that dangerous things tend to make people wary, I think; after what I'm used to dealing with, not much has that effect, so when I see something that actually inspires that reaction I tend to like it quite a bit despite the inherent fear.
The guy I knew was pretty shortsighted that way. Big dreams, not so wise on the follow-through. A shitload of dad issues, too, but hey, that's none of my business.
...So what you're saying is you've seen so much shit that nothing scares you anymore, but these things do and it feels fucking great to know there's still something out there that can do it for you.
I've only known one person who's tried it and stands any chance of succeeding, honestly. I don't know how it went for her yet, though; we'll know shortly, assuming I ever leave this place, but for the time being I've no idea how she is.
He was the head of a pharmaceuticals company, as far as the public was concerned. Like I said, he had big aspirations to be a god. But he was smart enough not to run the prototypes on himself; he used unsuspecting passerby for that. Guys who wanted to make some quick cash, guys who thought it'd be fine — just one little bout of research and it was over.
Whatever the hell the guy was doing, it wasn't producing gods, but the reject pile was getting bigger and bigger and that made it harder and harder to keep things under wraps.
So a couple of pesky flies tracked him down and killed him, but not before he dosed himself with his own grand finale and made himself a monster for his troubles.
[text] 10/01, oh god it's like 3am
[text] heyooooo
[APPARENTLY HE IS NOW.]
[text]
[If you. remember that.]
No, I'm just still awake for some hideous reason.
[text]
oh
oh god
that's right we're friends aren't we oh god]
Maybe the hideous reason is you're not drunk enough.

Have I ever told you about the bandersnatches?
[text]
[WERE THEY...FRUMIOUS
HE FEELS LIKE FOR SOME REASON THEY OUGHT TO BE FRUMIOUS???
what is frumious anyway oh god it is really 3 am isn't it]
[text]
...it is so totally 3 am]
I used to shoot them a lot, when I had nothing better to do.
I think you would like them.
[text]
[...it's going to be a long-ass night.]
Did they explode when you shot them?

...and that sounds about right, actually.

[text]
[...Ah.]
My sister, Alexia.
[text]
I doubt she's a fuck-up like he was, though, so the hope's probably unnecessary.
[text]
How did he end up, though? I'm curious now.
[text]
There's a story of how he died, and then when four pretty dolls tried to bring him back they wrote the story of what happened to him after.
